ARTARLO – MY FIXED CLOSURE

“Artarlo” is a nickname of two meanings; “Art of Tarlo*”: the woodworm ability of digging into wood, and meaning the firm idea that has troubled me during all these years resulting in my journey along this path.

So then, the name “Artarlo” is a combination of my initials A & R together with the word for woodworm resulting in the brand name for all my creations.
My passion first began when I was at school, attending the art institute where I realised had a gift and patience for handicraft work with a keen eye for detail.

I began producing my first carvings working in garages and basements where I learnt to improve my technique of hand-carving every detail. Over a period of time my painting and airbrush skills improved resulting in what I create today and you can see with your own eyes the value.

*”Tarlo” is the italian word for woodworm but also means a firm idea stuck in a human mind.

HOW MANY UNIQUE HANDCRAFTS ARE CREATED

UNIQUE REALIZATIONS MADE A HAND

Everything first comes to life from a drawing on a poplar plywood that is then hand cut with a simple hacksaw.

At this stage every single piece first needs to be sanded underneath to remove the impurities from the cut and then sanded on top to make the corners less sharp.
All pieces are then individually painted and enriched with black shades.

The frame is made from the edge of the original plywood from which the pieces have been cut, and reinforced by a further piece of thicker plywood.
In some cases lengths of wood are used to create a larger frame. All the pieces are then stuck together with vinyl glue onto the base frame like a puzzle.

The whole thing is then finished with a shiny coat of paint which not only adds brightness but also makes the item waterproof and impervious to dust.
The outcome of this process is to be considered unique given that it is totally hand crafted and it is then ready to be admired and purchased.
